Ascension Bay bonefish, February 2011
« on: February 07, 2011, 11:57:22 AM »

Just got back from the Mayan Riviera, Mexico and while there took a trip to Ascension Bay to try bonefishing with Pesca Maya. It was one of the things to do from my bucket list and had never tried it before. On an absolutely beautiful day wading knee deep in crystal clear waters flinging flies, I had the immense good fortune to bring 14 bones to hand, the largest around 3 lbs. I have hooked and landed many steelies but have never had a fish take me 1/2 way thru the backing in seconds..it was a real rush for sure. My Mexican guide was awesome even though he spoke only a few words of english ( cast there, wait and strip-strip) Fishing seems to have its own universal language, smiles and laughter tell the whole story. I also hooked and lost my flies to a couple of nasty barracuda. I did manage to get a half a barracuda to hand..I lost the other half to a much bigger barracuda. The whole day including transportation, breakfast, gear, lunch , beer and tips to the driver and guide cost me only $340.00US. I probably will never have another chance to do this in my lifetime ( I'm 58 this year ) but I do recommend trying it if you have the opportunity.

This is my first attempt at posting any type of pics!! Thanks for the instructions and be ever mindful of the monster you have just created. My partner Joe is holding the Jack Crevalle.
