need feedback on sliding reel seat.

I am going to build up a 2106 and I thought I would put a movable reel seat on it so it can be used for either CP or spinning reels.  I am leanning towards sliding rings vs a sliding tube reelseat and I would like feedback on both types. 

Questions I have are: do the ringed versions wear on the cork after years of use, do they offer any play and not hold the reel as securely as a convensional reels seat, etc.

personallly id go with a fixed reel seat with a slightly longer butt so you can fish it comfortably with a spinning reel...most sliding rings will not hold well and will need to be taped

X2 I had a sliding rings  on my Fenwick but it was a pain in the butt with the rings sliding that I had it replaced with a fixed seat.

I have a trigger reel seat that can loosen off and the reel can then wobbles when you are reeling under pressure (ie fighting a fish)...drives me nuts so I am always cranking that one down...doesnt sound like I would like the rings at all.

I have enough CP's maybe I'll just build it up for spinning.  I have seen 13 foot noodle rods with typical spinning reel handles but the rod is for pinning...dont like the look but I guess I could always stick a pin on it if I felt inspired to do so.

I have 3 rods with some variation of sliding reel seats - 2 with sliding nylon/rubber rings and 1 with a proper sliding reel seat.  I have not had an issue with any  of them reel seems sturdy in all cases while winding.  If you are worried with the sliding rings you can always use electrical tape under the ring and out of site.   Naturally the the reel if left in one position for a long time it will leave a mark - might be the price you pay for less weight = more sensitivity.  Just my 2 cents.

My very first drift rod was Hardy Ten Ten which had sliding reel seat I had to use tape to stop it twisting and turning.

if you have a rod with a sliding reel seat that does not tighten down tight enough, try steaming the corks. I do this every now and then on a coupel of rods I have and the steaming process swells the corks and the reel seat becomes tight enough to hold the reel I use on it. You can also cut shims the same shape as the reel seat of the reel you are using and place therse under the reel seat before tightening it up and it will also hold the reel in place better.

I have a shimano claris noodle rod with sliding rings and have had no issue with either pin reels or spinning reels.

Works great and is nice to have it exactly where you want it.

I was also told not to store the reel on the rod when not in use.

I've had it for a few years.

I find the rings must be set right for it not to move.... not hard to do :-\
