With respects to that article, it isn't clear if they initially counted the Sockeye Salmon upon releasing them, and then counted how many returned a few years later?   For example, let's say that they released 10 million smolts, but only 1 million spawning salmon returned.  Is that what they're saying?

If it's smolts that were released and only 10% of them returned, then how come it's not mentioned that Pike Minnows could have eaten a large number of the young salmon?  It has been the case in other rivers such as the Columbia River, where they had a bounty on Northern Pike Minnows.   The Fraser River has an abundant population of them.
