Small Damsel nymph fished deep below an indicator on a breezy day - better to have a weighted fly, it fights the indicator and jigs around well - imparting life

Something with green in it, and a couple of chironomids with a touch of blue

Deep water halfback also good when it is hot.  Sit it right off the bottom at 30' off the islands at the South End and hang on.

thanks you for all yor responses. I spent 2 and a half days there. I lost a fish trolling a spartly on the first day. weather was not so good. it hailed on us 2 times. :o. the second day i threw everything at them and got no bites. the last day i hooked a beauty 4 or 5lbs fish using a micro leech under an indicator and lost it after about a min. Weather was not the greatest but it was fantastic being out for 2 days in a row! dont get to do that often.

ill get em next time.

Rick, just wanted to know what size hooks and beadheads you're using for the chironomids? Are those size 12 or 14's with 5/32 or 7/64 bead heads? Love the two-toned ribbing on the first one!

Size is going to depend on the time of year and time of day.  Roche has very small chironies (size 16-18) as well as very large (10-12), although they do not often get those monster "bombers" like Tunkwa and Leighton produce (up to size 8 ), and they are typically size 12-14.

First fly I use on that lake is a sparse black soft hackle with a gold bead head. Had great luck with that fly first time I ever fished that lake and have always started with it since.

I've always had real good success in Roche Lake using my Coho Bugger fly pattern. Here's a fly tying video of me tying this pattern that gives a bit of an explanation about this pattern and why it's so effective for me:  http://innovativeflyfisher.com/forum/index.php?topic=121.0
