I wouldn't say scarce at all . If you time it properly and fish the right water it's pretty easy to connect with a bunch each morning. Bright fish too. Not stale dark fish.
Water conditions dont warrant me heading out on opening day this year , but last year I was into 6 on July 1st .

Really? I believe the run is now under 3000? which makes it scarce.

I agree....
12 to 20 fish morns have not been uncommon for me in the last 2 years.
Not all are fresh, but a few are keepers for sure. I always wait for a chrome doe  ;D

PS conditions are still brutal

Bryan, my guess is the returning summer red chinook population is less than that but we will never know as there is no enumeration of this stock.  Last I heard about 500,000 juveniles are released annually for this, which in hindsite is a poorly designed program using inappropriate broodstock.

I think you may want to follow ED  ;)

Naw follow the people I learnt from...
They catch more  ;) I get out fished 2 or more to 1 every time I go with them lol.

Couple little hints...

DEEP water, slow seam right along the fast stuff
Best "bite time" between 8 and 10 am and after the sun dips a little behind the mountain in evening.
Morning is best, my best day last year in the evening was only 5 fish and only happened once, most days were only 2 to 3 evenings.
They only seem to like roe... for me anyways

Pretty close to what I found . My best day was 13 hooked . All fresh fish . One pool before 10 am.  The perceeding days I would manage to hook at least a few . Proceeding days the same. This would last a three week period . I feel the run may be closer to 4500. I'm no expert but I spend more days fishing than than working :/

is it possible (with enough walking) to get some shoulder room on the vedder? this is my first year and I keep hearing how busy it is there. I loved it in the spring when I was learning how to use my baitcasting reel and fishing for steelhead becasue I had tons of room. After 30min in that river with just me and my buddy I was hooked for life!

Please let me know if its possible or should I just try somewhere else? Anywhere between langley and hope works. If I can camp at the spot and wake up and fish it then even better.

We were at the alison pools area and by the jail(?) but I hear its not even worth trying come mid july....

thanks for any help you can give!

If you are planning on fishing for the reds you should have lots of room as it's not a very "busy" fishery. When fall comes it gets tricky but I always manage to find room. Looking forward to my first trip up this season and hope it comes soon :)

How was it today? I'm heading up on Wednesday morning, little rain is fine for me.

Hits? Were you up or down from crossing?

With the Fraser rising, the Vedder is also being pushed up a bit until later this week. The forecasted rain should make no difference. Clarity is good. Lots of really nice seems and pockets to fish. No traffic. Some fish seen rising.
Just watch your wading and crossings. The river has a lot of power right now.
Enjoy! :)

Was out visiting some family in Sardis, and went and had a look-see...

Not an awful lot of water is fishable around the crossing, but I did see that my honey holes were still there  ;)
