Where do you buy your flies?
« on: July 16, 2011, 08:58:28 AM »

Besides those that tie flies themselves ... who in the Lower Mainland has a good selection of flies?

Going to start up a box of flies and want to have a variety of wets, dries and streamers ....

You up for buying them online?
I find ones online are much better quality (generally) than ones from shops which tend to fall apart.

Started tying my own because ones from stores (especially "big ones like Outdoor wearhouse, etc) fall apart.
Can give you a link if you want to a guy that ties really nice ones and will also do up whatever flies you want. Good price too.

Cheers,
Dan

For everyone actually.... check out his stuff, really nice ties:

If I were to buy flies, I'd prefer to go to a fly shop like M&Y.  I've picked up a few samples from M&Y and Ruddick's (now closed down....unfortunately :( ) and they seem well tied, but I've never used them myself.  The guys at M&Y in Vancouver are great guys and they've given me great tips for tying!  I know they tie flies themselves, so I'd get them there if I had to...  ;)

I would suggest my friend Terry Minnisof Cranbrook, who does a mail order bus in flies and has the largest selection of flies he ties himself I have seen Lars46@shaw.ca or check out Hatch Match'r Fly & Tackle in Maple Ridge. Pretty much anyone who teaches classes in fly tying will be selective in the quality of flies they sell.
