Fenwick HMX Casting rods

Thinking about grabbing an 11' stick for steelhead this season...anybody fish an HMX?  How do they hold up?

I have a 10'6" HMX casting rod. In general the rod has held up okay through 3 seasons of Steelhead and Salmon fishing.
The components are good quality for the price point, but the cork is definitely low(er) quality and the filler has started to fall out on my grip resulting in some pretty significant holes.
The rod is listed as an IM7 blank, but the action is slow to medium, which is not ideal for my casting style. I would prefer a faster action rod.

buddy broke 2 so far just this year

rods don't have a lot of guides

company is owned by pure fishing now and the rods just feel cheap imo

JAwrey,

  Picked up a 11' MH HMX levelwind last year and am quite satisfied with it. If you're a fisher on a budget it actually is quite decent! Of course it's not a Sage or G-Loomis, but it sure beats the weight of a Shimano Convergence and other lower priced rods. I've used it for the socks on the Fraser, springs & steelhead from the Vedder/Chilliwack, chums on the Stave and cohos on Chehalis. Mounted mine with a Abu C4 6600 and have tried her with a Calcutta 400B. I would recommend the latter reel as it keeps the set-up nice and light.

  My suggestion is to pick up a Medium Power 10'6"-11' as the control is much nicer. I tend to muscle fish in and love the MH. Quicker lands = quicker releases(in case you don't intend on retaining).

PS. if you can wait, just save up for a GL3. It's worth the buck.
