Peg Leg - not accessible due to high water.
Scale Bar - good luck fishing with 200 other people on that short stretch of river.

Wherever you decide to fish for sockeye, PLEASE wear a PFD while flossing your sockeye. The Fraser is treacherous at the best of times.
I can just see unsuspecting individuals floating downstream because they waded too deep.

Search and rescue will be busy this weekend.

Thanks 2:40 for getting that up there as I was on the road with a First Nations meeting at Hope from 6 to 9. When I posted it I was told notice was coming down but of course it is never official to the notice is posted. Sorry for any inconvenience. At Lytton now with a brief fishing report shortly.

One thing to Note:

The current status of the Fraser River sockeye return provides for limited
recreational sockeye retention opportunities at this time in the non-tidal
waters of the Fraser River in Region 2 due to a small total allowable catch and
uncertainty in the estimated returns.

Looks like the move to limit recreational sector access to sockeye in the same way Halibut is being managed has come to our doorstep even sooner than I expected...

it will be interesting to see how well anglersdo this year given the extremely high water levels and the smaller run size...

And with peg leg unfishable where do you think everyone will show up...yikes

Absolutely correct. We were out on Tuesday and the bar space is very limited. I expect the success rates to be very low, especially with a short commercial and weekend native openings. Many people who fished sockeye for the first time last year will be highly disappointed this year.

I think it'll be disappointing, at least if the water level was lower there would be more gong shows at different spots, now it'll be one huge gong show concentrated at a few spots, and all the guys who fished
Sockeye last year - like you said for the first time will be disappointed - which will make the atmosphere that much more violent and "meat holey" - I just hope noone pulls a knife this year or tries anything stupid

As for me I'll be happy if I take home one, I won't be able to go all three days so I'll have my fingers crossed for a nice 6lb doe.

I asked a lady at work this morning if she was going to try for some this weekend and she said "no. I'll just buy native fish for $10 each."

I told her that's not legal and to Go buy from commercial guys at steveston if she wanted to buy her fish.
She said if she didn't buy it someone else would
I almost choked on a hashbrown.

In as much as commercial & native openings can seriously affect sport catch on the Fraser, where are these commercial & native openings posted? Generally if I see the boats working around Port Mann Bridge, 2 or 3 days later, you will be fishing a vacuum (fish-wise) on the Fraser bars. So to save our hard earned dollars on high cost of gas (and time with the family), we need to know these openings to avoid fishless trips.
