So, my brother-in-law got a boat this year, and he doesn't have a co-pilot most times. I decided/volunteered that I could be the "spare" driver if need be, so I took the boater exam (passed it with flying colours, even). But, now I feel like a driver that has just gotten his learner's. I'm legally allowed to operate a boat and have some modicum of knowledge about boating and safety, but no real boating experience. I would also want to be able to rent a boat and go out with my friends as well. I know my brother- and father-in-law will definitely help me out, but I would like to get some more experience/knowledge on my own as well.
What's the recommended (ie wise) way of getting a complete newbie his boat driving "sea legs"? We navigate the mouth of the Fraser in Richmond and the area around it.
