Went out with my 73 yr old mom today, she loves to fish as much as I do. She landed one lost 2 and I caught 3 lost 2 in a few hours. we have been fishing the same spot for about 18 years and we always get something during the pink run. I'll tell you it's in Delta.
It's fun to give the fish away to those who love to eat them (and who aren't quite as lucky as we were).

Anyone notice that the females are much more feisty than the males?? Both of the females I caught were jumping and running, and way harder to land than the males we caught... great fun!

Also, where we fish, the high tide is not the best time, although we seem to catch or have bites just about anytime of the tide cycle.

We had a bald eagle low overhead, watched a seal tearing through a salmon, saw a beat up old spring pass just a few feet away from shore, and watched as huge ship turned in the river right in front of us. All on a sunny beautiful day.. nothing better.

Yes about the females. I find  the males have more fight closer to the shore. Getting then up on rocks, I had to play goalie with one, the river being the net, but after 5 list he was not getting away. But females from the hook set freak a lot more overall and jump. Had a guy net the girl I took so that was easy.

Judging by the mood in the last pages of this thread, pink salmon fishing season must be winding down.

It must be Senior special day today. My 75 y.o. dad got off the plane last night after a 12 hour flight and we popped down to the river for a couple of hours around Noon to see if anything was showing up. It was pretty quiet when the tide peaked, so we went home and returned at 4:30pm. Fishersak had already been fishing for an hour without a touch. We started fishing and ten minutes later my dad hooked what appeared to be a snag at first, but then it started to run. A few minutes later, he got what he was looking for during this visit, ready to fly home now.



We stayed until 7:00pm. While there were risers occasionally and it seemed like the fishing was going to heat up, there wasn't much success along the shoreline. Out of the two dozen people fishing, we saw two other fish hooked later on tonight but both fish were lost. Somehow my dad landed the only fish among the crowd.

Pretty dismal fishing last night in the lower river.

Went to a spot near the Alex Fraser and there were tons of people there but didn't see a single fish caught.

The test fishery numbers are very low (1/5 of the peak) for the Cottonwood area (Deas Island).
They've stopped the test fishery in the upper straight so I am assuming that all the fish coming down are here.

Even the test fishery in the Ft Langley area (Whonnock) are starting to drop.

Lets hope it's the commercial openings and we'll get a couple of good days on the weekend.

Fished in two bit area for a couple hours this morning - hardly anything showing and most was way out in the middle.... nada for me today.... yes - let's HOPE it the commercials outfishing us!

We were out by Chilliwack yesterday, and there was a steady stream of pinks going by. In a foot and a half of water at the top end of the bar we were on, it was almost continuous. The current kept my fly up too high until I added a swivel.  I then managed to  hook a few. All were released.

Fished Lower Mid River this morning. Got into quite a few, best day out there so far. Couldnt keep them off the line today.

Nice fish.  Yeah, it was clear to most of us the hooks were placed there for photogenic reasons.  It is also helpful for those who are curious what you caught those fish with.  Keep it up.  Thanks for the pics.
