We fished two different locations in and near Richmond today with mixed results. At one spot, we saw quite a few rises during the evening incoming tide but didn't manage to hook any beside the one miss I had. At the other spot, about a dozen fish were hooked among five people. A few pink salmon were landed, but nearly half of the fish hooked were adult and jack coho salmon. This is a pretty good sign for what to look forward to in the valley coho salmon fishery.
If you manage to hook a fish right now in the Fraser River, please double check and identify the fish in the net before bringing it up. If it is a coho salmon, it needs to be released carefully because coho salmon retention is closed until early October (October 7th for the Tidal Fraser).
Have fun! IMO this is a very exciting and pleasant time to be fishing on the Fraser River. The crowd is gone, you have a good chance of getting into a variety of species and the weather is still reasonably good.
