Are there Crappie in the Fraser?
« on: August 20, 2011, 05:48:10 PM »

I was fishing with my Son today on the Fraser and we were catching some crappie I think, I have never caught them before so I am unsure.  Are there crappie in the Fraser? Are there sun fish in the Fraser?
This is a picture of one of the fish we caught.

Curious as to where this was. Tidal, non-tidal?

Just below the mission bridge, so it would be tidal.

Tumbleweed, there's tons of those pumpkinseed sunfish hangin' around the mouth of Kanaka Creek too. They love to steal your worms. They won't follow a hook to the surface, so unless you manage to land one of the little fellers you're unlikely to ever see one. But as soon as you get the worm on the bottom of the bank about 6 feet down, you can feel a piranha-like feeding frenzy going on - half a dozen or so of them tear your bait off in tiny, rapid chunks.

Lost more than a few containers of Berry's Bait and Tackle dew worms to those little &*%%&. But when you pull one up it's like, "WTH? Did someone let loose a goldfish in here?"

Back in my Ontario days (where they are everywhere), they made it  difficult when targeting Yellow Perch and Crappie. But on light gear, they can be fun.
