Capilano River, August 31st 2011

Was out trying the new rod on the cap for a bit this morning, not a whole lot to report. Saw a couple summerruns around, pretty encouraging. Caught a handful of coho jacks which was fun but not completely satisfying. Saw a couple dead steelhead smolts on the rocks, looked like the work of birds. Also saw some kids beating the crap out of a small smolt from a distance. Can you even retain small jacks?...Also got checked by a CO on my way to my car by the cable pool - surprised to see him there given that sockeye is open!

I was surprised to see a few HUMPIES in the cable pool, but all the coho that were stacked in there before have moved up to beyond the footbridge, which can be observed just past the fishing boundary. I blame the several large springs for this, they were circling in the pool rather than staging, but wouldn't bite anything.

Went down to the mouth too, the weir has been rebuilt since the 22nd's rain that blew it down, no one fishing and no fish in sight (apart from those dead beside the FN weir)

Actually, that was a really good fishing report.

Really observant on the fish ID, and up to date on the Cap situation, thanks.

Your rod is great nicefish! I just need to figure out to switch it to right hand retrieve as it seems you have it set for left. My casting is getting better every day, my problem is that im too rough with my casts [typical of someone who is used to gear]
