Tidal Fraser River, September 13th 2011
« on: September 13, 2011, 11:08:38 AM »

Not a bad morning. Started a bit later than expected, slept in as usual. ::) Fished from 7:45am to 10:00am. Nothing in the last hour, but had five chances in the first hour, managed to hook three and landed two of them. Both were male pink salmon and not in the freshest state like we usually see in Richmond, but still good enough if you're not picky. Water clarity has improved a lot since last week.

Good job. Let's hope that's a sign of things to come. Maybe we'll see some fresher ones on the next wave.

I put the coffee maker on a timer, even if I snooze through the alarm, I can't resist the smell of fresh coffee in the morning!

Fished one hour after work from 18:00 to 19:00, some odd risers and got one bite right within 5 feet from my spot, set the hook but the spoon pop out after 2 seconds    :(  Around 15 people there , all empty hand.

Not a good catch rate for me. Only 1 Pink Buck. I burned a tank of fuel looking for fish around the South arm. Very few spotted from the coal docks to North of Sandheads.  It was so calm I could see a jumper from a mile away and a finner from 300 meters. Just nothing to see. ??? Too many seiners out there for my liking. ::)

I fished a bar up river from fort Langley for about 2 hours in the evening. After an epic fail with my small spin rod I had to use my baitcast spun with my braided line. Needless to say casting the small spoons far enough to where the fish were was not working so well. I did manage one bite but long line released it momentarily after the bite.  There was a large amount of fish constantly jumping and rolling. The father of a family beside me was able to hook into two and his young son was able to reel in the second.  Fisheries then showed up, which for me was the first time ever I have had my gear and license checked. The father that caught the two wasn't so lucky when he found out fishing without pinching your barb is a bad thing. The Officers took his lure and left him with a $150 fine. I felt bad for the guy but you have to know your regs.

We fished near Langley for 3 hrs. i hooked 5 and landed two. Dad got one. Very Very bright and fresh fish all three, almost couldnt tell the species.

Still though, for the amount of casting i am doing the catch rate is not what you'd expect for the amount of fish showing and compared to two years ago.

Zero fish on the fly this year also. Spoons only.
