So I'm clear regs are as follows for Fraser (yes yes DFO reports are online I just want simple working here folks):

Abby and east is: two sockeyes, 4 pinks, 4 spings, no coho, no hatchery sockeye, total of 4.

Abby and west is no bait no sox otherwise the same?

Im heading out Fri morning, any guesses if regs will chance before then (I always check before I leave).

Partially correct/incorrect.

Currently, in the tidal portion of Fraser River (downstream from CPR bridge in Mission/Abby):

- No fishing for coho salmon
- No retention of sockeye salmon
- Bait ban

In the non-tidal portion of Fraser River from CPR bridge in Mission/Abby to the boundary just upstream of Chilliwack River mouth:

- No fishing for coho salmon
- No retention of sockeye salmon
- Bait ban

In the non-tidal portion of Fraser River upstream from the boundary just upstream of Chilliwack River mouth:

- No fishing for coho salmon
- Bait ban

Is there a road or another marker that I can use instead of "upsteam"? Im going to be meeting someone at his boat with GPS co-ordinates and I want to fish while I wait and just want to ensure Im not doing anything I shouldnt be.

The exact wording of the boundary just upstream from the Chilliwack River mouth is:

"the boundary sign located approximately 100 meters above the confluence with the Sumas/Vedder River on the south side of the Fraser River, then Northerly across the river to a boundary sign located on the north bank of the Fraser River."

If you are unsure where exactly it is, the best thing to do is to fish either much further upstream or downstream from the boundary to avoid any issues.

Pardon my ignorance.  I'm new to BC and salmon.  I caught my first 3 pink salmon last weekend on the Fraser out in Chilliwack (after no luck in Richmond 3 times out) and managed to get two females and a male.  I cured the roe from the females and have been anxious to go back and try the vedder with roe in the next couple of weeks.  Now I was double checking the regs and on here and there is a bait ban.  So if I understand right, that means no roe in the Vedder (??), but everyone is talking about roe on the forum.  I'm so confused...  If anyone can explain where and when and what I can use the roe for (was planning to use it for salmon), it would be appreciated.  May sound dumb, but since I've never cured roe and never used roe, I'd like to try it.

Not sure what you're looking at, no bait ban on the Vedder.

To check whether a particular freshwater system has a bait ban or not for salmon fishing in Region 2, please go to this page:

If you scroll down, you'll see that bait ban currently applies to Capilano River, Fraser River, but not the Vedder River.

IMO, the regulations are still extremely confusing to navigate around for new comers (I'm constantly finding miswordings/mistakes that I send in to DFO communications to correct) so it's not surprising that one would think Vedder has a bait ban. Also, when in doubt, ask the staff at your tackle store when making your purchases, or post here.

No bait ban on Vedder period (no boundaries to worry about).....boundaries that are closed to fishing through the year are....upstream from a line between two triangular boundary signs on either side of the Chilliwack River 100 m downstream of the confluence of the Chilliwack River and Slesse Creek....thats it thats all

Are there any salmon species you cannot keep in the Vedder? That's a bit confusing too.

If a species is not listed in the table, then you cannot keep. For example, sockeye salmon is not listed under Chilliwack/Vedder River, therefore the daily quota of sockeye salmon is zero.

Cool. So since I'm living in Kits, Capilano is close by. Nice to know I can try for Coho with bait after October 31st. It would be nice if they had some detailed maps of borders and boundaries. Just describing bridges and such makes it harder for someone new to the Province to know where they are.

I'm going to sit down with the guide and try and plot out my own map. Thanks guys.

I've joked with friends that you basically need to be a lawyer to figure out the fishning rules and regulations (area; sections; river/water portion restructions; bait ban; definintion of bait; retention; size; hooks; adult fish size definition; updated restrictions; and the list goes on  But truly, I know the fisheries people are doing their best, but there has GOT to be a simpler way of proividing guidance for recreational fishermen.  Some of the experienced anglers on this site are gracious enough to clarify some rules, but in the end, but does it really need to be that complicated?  I'm not looking of an answer here...just venting
