Was much busier than I expected really. A lot of drifting flossers, they didnt catch many. Funny, what is it with these hook and cook flossers they always seem to take it way too seriously, their faces look like they would crack if they tried to smile?

No springs today, spent most of the morning fly fishing and got nothing. Switched up to spoons and pulled a few in, a really nice chrome doe with lice came home with me. Not everyone is so picky, one lady came running over to ask if she could keep a massively colored up humpback male that I was about to return! Man I was scared to touch the thing let alone eat it! Fortunately for the fish it lived to see another day.

Was fishing the lower section, lots of pinks again surprise surprise. Below crossing and around that area was a gong show, saw a bunch of guys in the canal bottom bouncing and snagging fish. Pinks are all pretty colored right now, and it seems like there are only bucks in there, at least thats all I saw caught/caught myself - stop taking all the does commies/roe fishery/sporties at the mouth!!!!

What you witnessed today happens every year - sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse. The number of snaggers increases in proportion with the number of fish in the system.

The only way to really stop the snaggery (for at least a few hours) is to call 911 and report a bunch of knife-wielding madmen on the bank of the river in the KW bridge area. Soon you will have the mounties out in full force getting everyone off the river.

My friendly advice: stay away from the area - there is 38 kilometres of fishable water on the Vedder, much of it free of snaggers. I personally wouldn't be caught dead at KW (except maybe on a rare perfect day during steelhead season, with few people around).

Soon the rain will work its magic:  the river levels will increase and with it the beeks will move away from the KW area, as waders are not often an item in their arsenal. Unfortunately, many of them will move upstream to the Tamihi...and so it goes.

Lots of other options on the Vedder...just do some driving and legwork.

yup do milo said and WALK youll find spots with no people around. An easy thing to look for is a spot where the road is far from the river with no trail, you'll have the water to yourself.

With cloud moving in, I decided to head out to Vedder to try my luck for that first coho of the season.
Upon arriving at the river there were already a few anglers.  I decided to walk up river away from those "heavily" worked water.
First cast... BANG fish on!!  A pink and another pink and more pinks    After an hour went by, my hands were sore.
Then it happens a silver coho!!  It went for a few leaps and rolls and decided to swim towards me and with the fatigue from reeling in
all those pinks I couldn't reel in fast enough and pop    
What felt like decades went by finally had another coho on and I didn't bother to set hook as I thought it was another pink!!!  
A few cast later....  tag tag....  nothing....   Wait why is my float swimming towards opposite shoreline?!?   Set hook!!  YES!! Rolls and leaps finally
a solid hookup!!

caught my first ever fly caught salmon yesterday. Got number of pinks, even a silver one with a couple sea lice on its back. It was a male surprise , surprize... Also, th second fish I got on the fly was a nice wild Coho, about 7 pounds tail walking across the river... Great day overall, lots of fun.

I still haven't made my way to the Vedder yet (ever), but I just started working in Chilliwack and will have to give it a try soon. I always notice driving accross the HWY 1 bridge the amount of people toward the other bridge, is that KW? Is all that water downstream void of fish? Seriously, it's always empty. Looks like tons of open water to spend alone casting. And that's an observation without even having explored the river myself.

The lower canal can be great fishing but KWB is always crowded because of how close the parking is to where you fish.

And because of the deep narrow trench through which fish necessarily slow down, becoming relatively easy flossing targets.
The good thing is, as an angler evolves and becomes more proficient, he/she learns to catch fish in more challenging water - away from the most popular meat holes.
