Pink Salmon

Maybe I donot catch as many fish as I used to as these days I take the time to observe what is going on around me.

Took the time to watch the courtship of pink salmon yesterday above the Hydro Bridge a bit, in a side channel. Note the dominate male chasing other suitors away from a female and their redd.

I guess all animals do the same in one form or another. ;D ;D

I had hoped for silence during the filming but that's a child on the Rotary Trail crying in the background.

Really wonderful film, Chris. Thanks for posting it. It's awe-inspiring to imagine these fish starting their lives in these waters only two years ago, surviving a dangerous tour of the Pacific Ocean, fighting their way back "home," and keeping themselves going like this so that they can have sex *once* and then die.

Good video. I wish I could find a little spot that clear. Id fish and fish, then head over there and stop for an hour and just watch them do their thing. Then go back to trout hunting!

You can learn quite a lot from salmon in these channels,  seeing how they act. I've also tossed in a few small rocks to see how they react to the various weights that splash into the water, its interesting.

Any side channel is a good spot to view, chum will soon be doing the same in the same spots.
