That's fantastic, Rick. I had no idea there were so many models out that I could rig up with my float tube... I thought I was going to be at a distinct disadvantage while on the lakes, but these are perfect. Thanks!

For now I will be using a float tube, so I will try that approach to anchor myself as properly as possible. I haven't looked at depth finder technology in years - is there anything available that can be used on a tube, or will the count down method be my best option for locating depth?

You're kind of limited to one anchor with a tube, but you can use your fins to hold your position somewhat.  Ultimately a boat is going to be a better platform, but the tube beats standing on shore.

Check Craigslist for sounders, they come up around $100 often.

Thanks for the tip, Matt. I'll keep my eye's open - I realize I'm at a disadvantage with the float tube, but for now I'll be stuck using one until I my skill develops and I can justify purchasing a more solid boat - which is hopefully sooner than later. A float tube is just far more convenient for my situation right now, I just hope I can maximize it's potential.

I have been using a SA GPX this fall for still water coho fishing, long leader (18-20') Line shoots like a cannon and floats great, it's quickly become one of my favorites.

The BEST line I have ever used, by a long shot, is the Cortland Clear Camo 444.  Easy to cast, supple even in cold conditions (often lines get coils when it gets cold), and I've also noticed my success rate has gone up since I started using it.

Couldn't agree more unless fishing chronies this line really does the job.

The Snowbee WFBT-XS Buzzer is my favorite.
