As I wanted to end this coho season on a positive note, I decided to brave the rain and make one final go at the Vedder today.
I arrived at the canal area around 1 pm and did not see anyone else for quite sometime.
Rain was absolutely pouring and fishing was slow as expected.
After fishing both banks for sometime, I decided to go back to the spot where I caught many cohos this season.
When I arrived at the spot in knee deep water, I saw a plier in the water.
I picked it up and it was the one I lost last week.
This was unusual as I have lost a lot of stuff on the river, but never found them days later.
I began to wonder what the river gods might have in store for me today and my mood also picked up dispite being drenched in rain and freezing.
I baited up with some roe and cast out to the run which I was quite familiar.
A few strikes but no hook up.
After a while my mind started to wander and my drifts got longer and longer.
At one point it was so far down that I could barely make it out in the rain.
Suddenly, I noticed that my float was missing.
After saying an explitive or two, I set the hook not really expecting anything.
But to my total surprise, a chrome coho breaches the water and makes a spactacular jump.
After doing the customary jumps and rolls, I bring it close to look for the adipose fin.
It was tough to see well due to the heavy rain, but I didn't see one.
This was a really feisty 6~7lb coho and it beaches itself after making a final run down river.
I catch up with it and find that it has a little stub of a adipose fin the size of my pinky finger nail.
I gently nudged it and was happy to see it dash back to the river full of energy.
After that I landed a jack coho which was also released and no more action for the day.
Not a bad way to end a season dispite being drenched in rain.
