Caught the high tide this morning - rough weather for the first hour or two. Once the rain and wind died down, and high tide had peaked, I managed to get the biggest chum of the year so far (and he fought good and hard). Got him on a home made spinner (copper blade), and he was released shortly after the photo. He had sea lice all over the place.
Exactly 2 casts later, with the same spinner I got the biggest, most chrome bull trout I've ever caught:
I thought it was a nice coho at first because the way it fought, how chrome it was, and its size. I did't even think of trying to pick it up by the belly because it wouldn't have been possible. The fish had to be 5 or 6lbs. I had to look closely to just barely see the peach coloured spots all over her. Shortly after the photo, she popped the hook out by herself.
Then about another 45 minutes went by before I managed to get the best fish of the day:
A wild coho hen, probably the same size of the bull trout I caught. I'm constantly amazed at how incredible fighters coho can be. The acrobatics are just sick.
What a great day! Hope to try again tomorrow, but probably not until Tuesday.
