Sry guys for bitchin.  No hard feelins towards you Preliator.  And sure, the cost of my gear is a moot point.  Just don't like being accused of something I didn't do.

Definitely wasn't intending to make you out to be a bad guy. Perhaps I was just caught up in the "in between salmon and Steelhead season" moment, where as most systems I've been fishing recently have been practically devoid of anglers. Anyway, I picked up my ticket that day as well. See you on the flow, cheers

Only a couple of yrs living in B.C? Newbie! I see alot of dudes out there with the best of gear and no idea how to fish.Bought my first Sage a few weeks ago, after 28yrs of steelheading. ;D

That's a little more comforting to know! Fly Fishing can be quite the expensive sport, even at the entry level. The plan is to master what I'm doing before I start buying better gear - that way I won't feel so bad while I spend my days untangling wind knots and retying after snapping off from tree fish  :P

Thanks, Dennis. It's not without frustration at times, but all in all it's worth every minute. Just wish I had gotten into it sooner!

I saw nothing this morning, but it was beautiful, despite the rain.  Got a bit too windy to cast after noon so I called it a day.

Stats from Fred's:

Well here's some stats for you guys... last year in January 2011 we had 73 fish weighed in, this year in January we've had 134 fish brought in. Also, last year from February 1st - 5th we had 16 fish, and this year from February 1st -5th there has been 63 fish brought in! Yes there are more anglers on the water, but those numbers don't lie, there's a lot of fish in the system this year!
