Chilliwack River, January 11th 2012
« on: January 11, 2012, 12:53:57 PM »

Headed out today for my second trip of the season, arrived at the river shortly after 8 am and started working my way downstream covering water and jumping fence posts. Working through a likely spot my attention drifted for a moment and I missed a hit only to reel in and find a chewed up roe sack. Threw another one on and in a couple more casts same deal, small hit and chewed up sack. Well after ten or so more casts I gave up and started back down river.  An hour or so later I sat down on a log to to think through my strategies. Remembering that I had left my thermos of coffee in the car I decided to work my way back.

On the way back up I just had to try the spot where I missed the fish, three casts later the float went down hard and the chase was on. The fish took off into the main current and I had to run about 100 yards downstream reeling in a couple turns every twenty or so feet as I went along. After what seemed like an eternity the fish tired and finally came ashore.  Stopped at Fred's on the way home and it weighed in at  just under 13.

What a piggy. Heckuva tail on that one - not surpising that you had to chase her.

lucky got lucky today! ;D I didn't. :'(

Shane and I started a bit later than first light (I was late to the spot). I got my hands wet almost right away as I tailed a beautiful wild buck in its teens for another forum member. An hour later, I heard Shane whistling upstream, followed by an argh. ;D

My float went down once all day. A twig decided to pull the prawn.

It was a bit cold, but not a bad day at all considering this was my first fishing trip in two months since the coho salmon season.

Is it wrong to snack on the leftover prawns?

A beauty and nice pics too!
Looks like fish being reported are of good size and might be indicative of another good season on the Vedder. :)
