Shortening a rod handle?

Hey, i like this centerpin rod but the handle below the reel seat is a little to long for my liking. Could i take this to a rod builder and have him shorten the lower handle (about 4 inches) and put a new butt cap on? If so could you please give me an estimate as to how much this procedure would cost? Would this noticeably mess with the action?

I would go with a rubberized cork butt cap. In that case simply cut off, turn the butt cap to match the existing cork size and glue it up.
A mortised or aluminum butt cap would require that the existing rod cork be turned.
No idea what it would cost, but any rod builder can do it.
It shouldn't affect the rod action significant, but will of course affect how it casts.

 the amundson 11'6 cp rod. Its not real expensive but it has a realy nice action and up- locking real seats which is a bonus. Its rated something like 8-17lb test

I fish the same rod and have never found the butt section to be an issue. The butt section is only about 6" below the seat and if you cut 4" off of it I think it'd be too short. When fighting larger fish I find the butt very helpful as you can use it as leverage, otherwise you would be using only your wrist to support the rod while fighting a fish. I think you should buy and try the rod before you start getting multiple people spending time and energy helping you fix a problem that only exists in your head.

I will try the rod first but i can already tell i wont like that long handle it is longer than 6 inches . And 4 inches is just an estimate i am obviously going to measure the butt section to see exactly how much i want off... Do you like the rod?

Yeah I love it. For the money I think it's the best rod available. The extra length is really nice for long drifts and line control in general. I think you'll be happy with it.
