Used electric downriggers
« on: January 27, 2012, 01:51:19 PM »

I want to put some downriggers on the boat this year. And have come across some used Scotty's. What should one be wary of if buying used?

Also is a 6 amp draw to much power for my alternator in my 40hp Johnson?

all opinions and knowledge welcome.

--not sure about the draw on your engine I use two  marine start/deep cycle batteries.. one hooked to each downrigger. Never had a problem.
--If they look in good shape  should be good to go.. all parts easily available in BC.. sometimes belt goes but if serious user might want to have one spare on hand in the boat.
--I use the quick connect so do not keep downrigger connected to battery when not in use.
--Check out the sale price of new before going used might surprise you.
