In this video, I had waded across and fallen but made it to the large fir tree above Stoltz pool. John followed me and also fell. This is Len falling and nearly being swept down the river. This resulted in us being stranded in the middle of the river on a gravel bar. We lashed sticks into a grappel hook and used 20lb mono, clear flyline, and fly line backing to fassion a rope. This got me across but only just. Len was next, the river had risen from the snow melt by the time this atempt was made. Len lost footing and was swung across the river by the line which broke strand by strand forcing Len drop his rods and swim across. John left stranded with no line to cross had no better option than to strip down and swim with his gear across an slower moving section or the nearly freezing water. These events took place on February 19th 2011. We have caught one Cutthroat and one brown in more than 10 trips to the Cowichan. other local rivers we hit produced 2 steelhead in 3 trips and in the summer more than 10 Cuttys in an hour in sooke 3 were over 16". In conclusion the Cowichan river is a crewl mistress with limited acess, low #'s of fish, too many fishermen, and some kind of curse. The Cowichan SUCKS!!!

yep things can wrong real fast. I think most of us have an incident or two under our belt that might not have happened had we had a bit of foresight.

first mistake...dragging dead weight on a trailer rope acting as a counter balance against the flow of the water...done it myself, but dangerous if you slip...*case in point.
