He was a Commercial Halibut Fisherman long before being nominated as a Canadian Commissioner with the IPHC.
Word has it he has since resigned, leaving him free to pursue the desires of his Real Interest.

On a related note, the IPHC itself has noted complete satisfaction with the model currently employed by DFO to account for the Recreational Harvest numbers. He was part of the IPHC when those notations were made public. Whether one agrees with that assessment or not, it is more than obviously self-serving what he now states. And for him to do so under the name of the IPHC is actually quite disturbing...  >:(
