I was walking around the river today and came across a well groomed and decorated path leading from the dry river bed to the river flow  ... I followed it and found a small cabin , there was a hikers pack hanging from the outside of it and it was occupied . I didn't speak to anyone , I just con't on and fished the run behind it . This is east of teskey rock .

Was I tresspassing or something ? Or am I the only one who didn't know about this ? I thought there was no camping in the river valley .

Have not seen that one. Occasionally you will come across some homeless encampment on the river. And you are right there is supposed to be no camping on the river in that area.

this one is a more than a homeless guy . this small cabin , about 6'x6' has a door and window (no glass though) . some one has spent a lot of time on it , it is made of logs stacked like a traditional log cabin , and there is frame work up for another small cabin like stucture next to it .  .

the roof is made up of smaller logs and branches , clay etc . so if seen from above ( ie; helicopter ) it is out of sight in the thick tree cover .

I was going to take a picture of the cabin , but when I noticed the hikers pack on the outside I just left . It was a nice multi day framed hikers pack .

I did get a picture of his "rock garden" .... kinda a bunch of drift wood placed on the ground in some sort of pattern . I honestly thought I walked on to a old cemetary or something lol .

the only reason I stumbled upon it was because I walk the dry river bed and not the trails along the river .

When I came back through "his" pathway , he was standing out side his cabin and making a fire , just starred at me and didn't wave or anything .

Let's just say I kept looking behind me when i was fishing that run .

I've come across a similar place like this on the same river, as well as other places on a river near my house. I'm sure they're harmless people, some just choose a certain lifestyle and want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city!

Although I can feel sorry for folks in a situation like that, it is sad that there are no social services available for them to use.  Approach I would take is to report it to a C.O. . They can then look into it, and find out more about the person. Problems with situations like this involve not only garbage disposal, but also sanitary ones.  Also, if this type of situation is left on its own, what is to stop others from taking a chainsaw or axe  and constructing their own little cabin down by the river.

With regards to the  law that makes overnight camping illegal below the Tamahi Bridge. That rule was put in place way back in 2008 by I believe the Environment Minister at that time, Barry Penner. That was to crackdown on the vast amounts of garbage left behind by careless campers along the lower Chilliwack/Vedder River. For those who feel it is an unfair law, they should make their voice heard and petition against it with the current Minister of Environment. Just because land is provincial crown land does not mean people can do whatever they want on it. You still have to follow the laws and regulations for the area in question.

If it is crown land it belongs to everyone and anyone can use it anytime not just fishermen who think they are high and mighty like so many on this board.

Though it probably is a squatter, remember that there is titled land above tesky's rock and that the river course has changed many times over the last several decades, which may mean that that bar may be on titled land. Run into this situation while doing a heavy mineral survey for the Government in the early ninties just above and opposite the trailer park up at slesse. Not saying the situation is the same in this case a small trailer was hidden in the bush. Turned out legally!

Sam you'll love it. An oldy but a goody, way back from 72 and some scenes will definitely give you the heebie-jeebies. I used to own a bow just like Burt has in the movie and back in the days when I use to hunt and would pull back to shoot, thought about that movie.

I did competetive archery shooting for 5 years back in the day, twas fun and like riding a bike, I bet I could pick up a bow now and be almost as good. Sure brings back fond memories. Enjoy the movie.

every now and then I used to get that I'm not alone feeling when I was working up creeks in the past. Especialy so with coastal ,mossy dank ones.

Are you kidding?  There are more social services available to people in this province than I can count!  Someone like this just chooses not to use them, I would imagine.

or some just want to live on the outer limits of society, so as they may, and probably do use the services but do not want to contribute anything to the costs to maintain those services. Those are the ones that really irk me.

I think perhaps the problem is that services are available to most but there is a short circuit in the system when it comes to getting the right service to the right person. Compounding the problem is that some think they have a right to abuse the generosity or kind spirits of most Canadians.
By extention welfare/social security equals charity.

Okay feel free to list the social services available to this person in the smaller communities in the Fraser Valley. I think you will be surprised what you find. But I am always open to hear new ideas from others.
