Hit the upper river around 7am and had this great run all to my self
I was convinced there had to be at least one fish in there
I started at the fast part just below some rapids coming off a bend
I started off with a pink worm and worked my way to the end of the drift-nothing
I then started back at the top with shrimp-nothing
I repeated this with all i had and still nothing
I then went up river and tried another run, this too looked like it should be holding fish that would have made it up the rapids overnight
I met another fisherman at this run that said he had a hand shake with one earlier up river
I worked this run but nothing
i kept thinking about the first run and so headed back down , still no one there
This time i put on a single jensen egg and a bit of wool
first cast float dips, quick strike and nothing, yet my egg is now just hanging at the tip of my hook
Second and third cast nothing
Then next cast float dives off sideways and under it goes
i set the hook and the head shakes begin, my heart is now pumping and the cold feeling in my feet seems to have gone
The fish makes a move and i realize my drag is too tight
I turn the dial to slacken it off as the bend in my rod is getting bigger, I feel more head shakes and then pop, fish off
I try the run a couple more times but then get a work call so I have to leave
I knew there was a fish in that run
it was very cold out with ice build up on the guides
river in great condition
not so many folks out today
I will certainly try that run again next time out
