Harrison Fraser Confluence
« on: April 01, 2012, 07:53:10 PM »

Launched at Kilby on the weekend, and bombed down to the Fraser to have a look.  Having a larger boat I'm not as worried about this spot as I once was.  However I'm still curious what the depths are out in the main stem of the Fraser this time of year.  Around mission and lower it looks ok because the river doesn't fan out as much, but past mission it looks like it is really shallow.  I don't have a jet boat.  Is it foolish to be blasting around out in the Fraser this time of year?  I have hydrographic data on the river but this stuff changes.  I'd like to go find a hole and try for a sturgeon.  THe Harrison was really low, but it's clear, and easy to see the main channel.  On the Fraser the visibility is low.  Hard to tell if you are heading towards 4 feet of water or 1 foot.
Cheers.

from the mouth down to island 22 your fine. there is a big shelf in the middle of the river at island 22 you have to go wide around but its not too bad...i imagine its pretty skinny below grassy right now though, i dont think i would do it if i didnt have a jet. if your looking for sturgeon, right out from the island 22 launch should be good right now

I really want to kick this guy in the shin and poke him in the eye.
Those bars pop out of no where, bring a spare prop.  Makes for a bad saftey meeting when floatin.  Grassy to Island 22 good on the south side,  22 to the harrison good on the north side.  Still finding my way by the time I figure it out Ill have hopefully saved enough to not worry about it.

I don't think he'd understand what you mean unless you did what he does: http://www.talklikeapirate.com/translator.html

Some people find it funny, I did at first, and some people don't find that amusing. Now that the initial humour has worn off, you can do what I do, just skip the post and read the other ones. It takes too long to figure out what is being said, I don't have the time for that.

So what Rodney is saying is that all we need to do is put our posts in pirate.....
And then we can get away with saying whatever he want cause he won't read them  ;D

Got some useful advice.  Thanks everyone.   Not sure what the google link was about by danube boy.

I definitely have spare parts on board.  I'm able to run skinny water, but am always appreciative of comments from people with more experience than I.

I launch out of Pretty's or Kilby all the time and am very leery of the fraser river this time of year. I may be playing it too safe but I typically stay in the Harrison until after the debris has left the fraser river near the end of May depending on run off. So far my spare prop is unused.

I haven't been on a boat in the Fraser but I'm wondering the same. When I look at google satellite maps, it looks like the picture was taken during a summer of somewhat low water, so you can see small islands in the middle of the river. You could try looking at the map and boating more safe in those areas. I've never heard of people having problems though in the Fraser but if I went boating, I'm sure I wouldn't be racing.
