First off hey everyone, just signed up and first time posting here. Just recently decided to get back into fishing... Haven't been in 6-7 years. Bought myself a new set up to hopefully work in lake and river fishing.

Right now, the Vedder has lots of steelhead scattered throughout the river.  If I were to choose one go to lure it would be a single jensen egg with a small tuft of wool in the bait loop of a #4 gammie hook fished under a float.  Concentrate your efforts around the Mid River area and downstream and cover as much water as possible and you will have a good chance of hooking one.  Don't hesitate to go back to a spot you have already covered.  Steelhead will turn on and off during the day.  Also they may be more apt to bite if they have moved from one spot to another.

Just to add some more information to Stratocaster's post. One item to watch out for is the regulation changes/closed areas coming up in May and June, for the Chilliwack/Vedder River as well as all other Lower Mainland streams.

It's difficult to answer your question because it is quite broad. If you narrow down to what species you wish to target and what gear you currently have, then more specific answers can be provided.

My gear currently is a 8'6" Fenwick Eagle GT Spinning Rod with a Penn Fierce 4000.
I liked the price and the feel of the rod and reel so thats what i went with.. with a braided line and 20lb lead..
I'm definitely not a fly fisher but im going to be using that rod for river and lake fishing because im not in a position to buy 3 different rods hah.
