First fish bites early and then quiet. Why?
« on: May 02, 2012, 10:17:38 PM »

I've been going out to deer lake lately for some close to home fishing. It seems like every time I start out with a spinner and it catches me a fish within 15 minutes and then I get nothing. I try different lures and tactics (float, bottom) but nada. This happened at different times of day too so that's not a factor and others seemed to take longer to hook a fish but were more consistent at getting bites throughout the day. Any ideas, why this might be happening

Most likely because there are hatches going on in the morning, this means the fish are active and searching for food. These fish are stupid stocked fish, like, I have seen them caught on cigarette buds. So in the morning they are feeding on basically anything that looks tasy.

Try mixing it up a bit.  Change up often if you're not getting hits and especially change up the speed of retreival.  As BCfisherman97 said they're not the brightest fish.  I don't know how many fish I've hooked up with while stripping in my fly super fast, especially using a big leech pattern.  Some people swear by the red power eggs as they look similar to the food pellets stocked catchables are raised on.
