Hi there i just started fishing last fall and this summer i want to try bar fishing in chilliwack. I have a Abu Garcia C3 6500 and shimano convergance 10'6'' rod. Will this setup be sufficient for bar fishing for chinooks?

No that setup is too light as you need to be casting weights over 10oz.

shimano convergance 10'6'' rod. I have the same rod as a back up but it wouldn't stand a chance with the springs. u neen a medium heavy or just heavy rod.
fighting the springs is one thing but casting ur weight for bar fishing is another.

can't say for sure about the reel. I have the same one but no experience yet. I would say its fine. But the rod needs to be heavier. I have a 10-25 lb trolling salmon rod designed for lures 3-8 oz which is really heavy but casting is another story. I hooked it up with a 10 oz weight in the garage and it did not look good for casting. If it was still water like tidal fraser you might get away with a 4 oz flat weight.

Recommended casting weights for Shimano CVCL106MH2B: 3/4-2oz
Weights used for bar fishing: 10oz+

Maximal mono line rating recommended for Abu Garcia C3 6500: 14lb test
Mono line used for bar fishing: 40lb test

The reel might be ok, but you might have to use braided line .

I use an old Diawa 275 moocher, you can find them used for cheap. you don't need anything fancy.

A 6500 C3 Abu won't last long chucking 10 to 16 oz weights.  Its not just the line capacity, its the strain and wear on the parts of the reel.  The 7000 series is much better for that.  The Bar fishing standard is an Abu 7000 with a Trophy Fraser King Rod.

If you are good at casting a Centerpin, then the Mooching reel setup is also an option.

Too bad there are no Springs.
Apparantly...it will probably be August before we get an opening for anything on the Fraser this year.
