Type 3 Sink enough for the Cap?
« on: June 27, 2012, 05:49:09 PM »

I was just suggested a type 3 rio sink line for the cap by the local tackle shop. Before I go and use it, I was hoping for a few opinions on if it's fast enough. My other option is type 7, what would you folks chose?

If its for Coho Ive always used a Clear Intermidiate which is a type 3 clear sink tip I think. Works great for me.

I'd go type seven for 10 - 20' deep pools and if you are fishing shallower water just use tips which you probably already have.

To add to this thread...

I read that leader sinks faster than sink tips, and the fastest way down was a sparsely dress fly on thin leader.

so what is the best way to get down to the depth needed for something like the cable pool ?

Ive just made an 18' leader and was going to try on a floating line.

all help appreciated

I would stick with the three--for deeper faster pools do not use more than 4-6ft. leader and simply pinch on various sizes of spit shot to get to the depth that you want to fish-Just That Easy!!

Why wouldnt guys just use leader instead of tips then? I believe that info is incorrect

This statement quite simply is not true--one or all of the following are factual--Weight your fly with lead before tying-----Use split shot and swilves--Use short leaders---stay home and real false BS on Rod`s computer site.
