curing roe

Hi there I have some sockeye roe that i want to cure for coho and steelhead fishing. I was just wondering what peoples favorite way to cure was, What color would be best? and the purpose of borax? any advice would be much appreciated.   Thanks

Ive been told that dark red is the best way to go for springs and coho.
