Jensen egg spawn sacs?
« on: September 15, 2012, 02:56:10 PM »

Has anyone ever tried making spawn sacks using jensen eggs and a peice of white wool inside?

i made some to use on the vedder tomorrow because i had previously been fishing with spawn sacks purchased from freds,
but i wanna make it out super early tomorrow and my local shop doesnt carry premade spawn sacks.

the guy at my local shop said that they would probably work well for springs, but wasnt sure about coho
he said their "smarter"

any info would be great, thanks

Works well for steelhead but not sure for cohos. I tried them before but cohos doesn't seem to like them. Only real roe works. You can also use blades in the morning .

You can use blades or spoons all day if you want.I think he meant that they would work till you were able to get some roe if you wanted to.

The only roe that doesn't seem to work for anything is sockeye roe. Other than that, chum, springs, cohos and pink roe works well.

the problem is, that the area im fishing is kind of hard to float a spinner down, so roe worked better. i had 2 fish on today but none landed :'(

any roe works as long as you cure and present it in a nice way.

Don't bother to make sacks, water is really low. Just use a single Jensen egg, size 4 hook and a tiny piece of wool. Works good for Springs and Coho, not as good as roe though.

There's an episode of..... Sport Fishing BC (?) the one with Mark Pendlington.  They go steelheading and they use Pautzke's fire eggs and "cured" them in a Pautzke's cure in a tupperware container and made sacks that way.  They caught fish, but obviously the magic of television would allow them to change bait if it wasn't working and just not tell the audience.  Good show though.

I was under the impression that pautzkes eggs were real cured singles..
Never bought a bottle so I cant confirm this.
