Blog: Wise words from Carl Sagan
Salmon Farm Science, Oct. 05, 2012
We wanted to share this great quote from Carl Sagan which is in his book “Cosmos.”
“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. it is simply too painful to acknowledge — even to ourselves — that we’ve been so credulous. (So the old bamboozles tend to persist as the new bamboozles rise.)”
…Staniford and his friends are not critical thinkers. They are zealots, fingers in ears, clinging to decade-old information and a word picture of a salmon farming industry which, if it ever existed, has long since moved on to more environmentally sound practices.
Their contributions to the global discussion about salmon farming, and aquaculture, are of no use to anyone. They have been bamboozled, and are no longer interested in finding out the truth.
Unless they are willing to acknowledge that they may be wrong, and that they may not have all the facts, their views are irrelevant, one-sided points of religious dogma and have no value in the global discussions about aquaculture.

Reminds me of the arguments that took place when folks started realizing that tobacco smoke was killing them.....

Your tobacco argument is getting old and boring af, how about something new?  Anyway, Chris stirred the pot and we reacted ... so please pass this post on to Staniford so he can have a laugh.

Oh, has he asked anyone for donations yet? :D

I agree, but the same can be said for Aqua's argument.

Anyone ever wonder why Staniford is coming back?

The answer lies in a post Chris made some time back where he posted an article, uncited of course, talking about Don's new job. His new boss had this to say in response to the following awkwardly translated question:

Why have you been with Staniford?

- I have to go abroad, and then we must have the best. He also has a large
network we can benefit from. In addition, he can help us to get financial
support abroad. Many have claimed that the more I long have had financial support from
abroad, but that's not. Maybe we have received 15,000 dollars from a
German when once, equivalent Oddekalv.

It appears that they are coming to see if they can raise any money to take back to Norway to fund the operation there. Pull out your cheque books boys.........................Staniford's new job depends on it.

I don't blame Don for laughing at many of these posts.  If people are willingly giving him money for his twisting of the facts like some religious cult then he should be laughing....all the way to the bank.  He probably figures it is better than pogie. Congrats Don!

Unlike the feedlots who have the government giving them free rent in our oceans, Don needs to count on the ordinary people for support.

It's amusing to see how the only people complaining about the financial support Don generates, are the feedlot people!
