Im new to BC, new pilot-house fishing boat at River Rock on the Fraser, and looking for someone that wants to go out with me fishing all winter. Im trying to learn the waters here.

I will provide the boat, cover all fuel costs.

You:
-  Very experienced on fishing the Fraser and other winter spots
-  Have a good sense of humour
-  Know how and where to catch fish, read the weather, tides, bottom, temperature, conditions etc.

You want the truth? Fishing the Fraser in a boat in the winter where your located is not really going to get you any good fishing. Sturgeon fishing in the winter is off, salmon are done and fishing for cutthroat and bull trout is better done by fishing on shore or much higher up river in the many tributaries.

Winter Chinook start up after Christmas.
Do you have downriggers?
We would be fishing around Howe Sound and west Van.
Prawns and crab should be good as well.

Judging by where Berlioz's boat is, I think he's looking for fishing opportunities in Vancouver Harbour for winter chinook salmon etc.

In his post he specifically said Fraser. If he wants to fish the ocean he should say so. That way he gets the responses that he wants.

Lots of good spots around in the winter. Just have to get the right person to fess up to where to go. Also don't limit yourself to only catching salmon and your set.

Thanks all for the good feedback..shows how little I know about the rivers. My understanding was that it was pretty much a waste of fuel to hit he ocean all day for the odd Spring.

I do have all the gear..downriggers, etc and am well equipped except for the speciality lures/setups for fish I have never fished for like sturgeon.

Im fine with fishing the ocean...I was (wrongly) under the impression that the ocean dries up till feb/march.

Happy to go wherever the fish are.

In the spring I think Ill do a trip to the West coast of Van Island to hunt for Halibut. Im told not many in the Straights.

If you are not able to find someone to hop on your boat (I think this is a rather generous offer for any keen saltwater anglers without a boat), then maybe consider taking a trip with one of the more reputable charters in Vancouver (Bon Chovy or Pacific Angler) and gather as much information from them as possible on the seasons, tides, etc. Bon Chovy usually has a pretty good winter fishing package starting in January and I should have that available on the website soon (here's last year's deal). From now until March or April, winter chinook salmon are targeted, with crabbing and prawning on the side. The Gulf Islands fishing picks up in spring months.

This is exactly what I would do if I were you. Do one or two charter trips to learn the area just to get an idea on how and where to target our local winter chinooks.
