I just saw one yesterday closer up on the Vedder beach - thought about how big they are. Glad no one had a toddler around!

Yup.  Fwiw, there is a story of a Bald Eagle snatching a small dog along the Vedder River`s Rotary Trail last winter.  Apparently the dog was off leash about 30 feet in front of the owner when the eagle grabbed the dog and flew off across the river with it.  Dog was howling all the way across, along with the owner, an elderly lady.

I've seen 2 eagles on the vedder this fall season munching on carcases and man they are enormous very well made video tho.....

Annoying that so many do not heed this. Some people donot take their children on the trail as they have been knocked down by loose dogs.

There is 2 places people can take their dogs to run off leash in the Chilliwack area.

LOL!!  and people aren't supposed to dump garbage there either.  If this incident did indeed happen, and I have no reason to believe the story to be false, being a dog owner I can relate to the distress this woman experienced - you apparently, not so much.

Or maybe relate to the guilt the woman felt, for not complying with the regulations, resulting in the gruesome death of her pet.

why should I feel sorry for her? She knew she was blantantly disobeying the trail rules.
It's like the idiots who drive across the water at Peg Leg and ruin their new vehicle....the people standing on the bank are warning them not to cross....but the guy driving across knows better and doesn't listen

Actually Robert G we are not that far apart on this; I'm just surprised at what I perceive to be a lack of compassion.  For the record I`m an eagle guy, love to watch them and totally understand they were in survival mode last winter on the Vedder due to the low chum salmon return.  What this bird did was uncommon for a Bald Eagle but was only natural and normal and probably happens more frequently than we know when these birds are starving. 
 I walk my dog (to big for an eagle but just right for a coyote) there, off leash, blatantly breaking the law every day and understand the safety of my dog, mainly from other dogs, is my responsibility.  I meet many seniors out walking themselves and their dogs and some of us have bonded as like minded people often do.  Not sure I would compare drivers at Peg Leg to these people or this incident though ..sure her dog was off leash ... she was in the wrong and she paid for that ... just saying I know how close some of these older people are to their pets and how traumatic that would have been for her.
