Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report, January 4/12
« on: January 04, 2013, 07:26:34 PM »

We have not been out for the last few days, but we have received some reports of some very nice fish caught in local waters.  Howe Sound and Vancouver Harbour have kicked out some REAL nice winter chinook over the last 3 or 4 days.  There was a 26 pounder landed in late December in Howe Sound and today our good friend Rick Clark landed the biggest winter fish in Vancouver Harbour so far this winter chinook season, a beautiful 20 pounder!   We have a couple charters out this week and our really looking forward to getting out.   On average you can expect 2 to 6 decent fish a trip right now.  The fish have been averaging between 22 and 34 inches with a good portion of the fish being legal!

We have noticed that a lot of the fish that we have cleaned have been loaded with small firecracker herring.  As a result we have been having our best success on smaller coyote, silver horde, and gypsy spoons.   In the harbour we have been doing the best at our winter stomping grounds off West Vancouver.

Crabbing has been getting better with an average of 2 to 4 keepers per trap and prawning has also been good up in Howe Sound.

Give us a call if you would like to a charter!  Our diesel furnace on our big Grady White makes winter fishing comfortable even on the rainy days!   There is some good winter salmon fishing only minutes from our dock!

Tight lines
