Chilliwack River, Januar 17th 2013
« on: January 17, 2013, 02:33:56 PM »

Today was going to be my 7th day in a row with only 1 hooked but lost.

I knew I was into my 9850th casts and I was bound to get one soon.

After dropping off my son to school I headed to the lower part of the river. The first couple hours produced nothing except frozen rod eyes.

With the sun out, the temperature went up nicely and my line was going out smoothly again.

I started to fish this run with a guy ahead of me. He was casting and walking at a steady pace and I saw him setting his hook a couple times. I was not sure if he had a bite or not and since he looked like a good rod, I decided that he must have missed a few bites.

I decided that on my 10,000th casts to watch carefully. Lo and behold my float dipped slightly with a bit of hesitation and I set the hook firmly.

The battle was on and a few runs up and down I was able to bring in a nice hatchery hen of about 11lbs.

Where did the 10,000 cast number come from? I've always believed the number is 1,000.....   :o  :D

Most likely from Dave. ;D ;D

So you're suggesting the 10,000 casts is just Dave's personal experience and not the actual rule......  ;D  ;D

You just cleared up a big question, and gave new hope to many many steelhead fishermen.
