Hockey is alive & well.

Looks like the late start did not hurt the hockey interest.
Lots of fans.
Last week Richmond had a well attended celebration " Hockey Day ".

Guy LaFleur " The Flower" hockey legend played some floor hockey.
There was a game on the ice as well.
Cliff Ronning scored 4 goals.
A lot of you remember Ronning from the 1990's Canucks.
He never took a day off when he played.
Super skater & had a nose for the puck.
Why the Canucks let this guy go to another team is beyond me.
Even Pat Quinn past GM & coach of the Canucks was at the event.

Gee I remember Pat when he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He also was an Atlanta Flames. ( Yep the same name of the Calgary Flames )
Quinn was a D man on the Canucks back in the 1970s.
He played kinda like Harold Snepts .
Big , not the greatest skating skills but a lot of heart.
Get close to the net & these guys would make sure there would be some serious contact.
Quinn did nail Bobby Orr.
Older hockey fans remember the hit.
His brother was a pro wrestler , who wrestled all over the world including Vancouver.
Even was part of the WWE ( present name )

Talking about old timers , in TO they had some past hockey players come on the ice before the game. Armstrong Bower E Shack Keon also I think.. & others. Remember those guys very well.

Maple Leafs won over Ottawa Senators 3-0 yesterday.
Ben Scrivens the goalie got the shut out.
A lot of great stops !!! Do not think they need Luongo.

Today is "Hockey Day in America" & NBC is broadcasting a few games today.
Presently 21,000 people are in the building watching their Chicago Blackhawks playing the defending Stanley Cup Champions , LA Kings.
Seems Quick the LA goalie is not playing very good this year. He was like a " wall " last year. Very hard to score on.
Maybe his millions of bucks in his pay raise has affected his play ( ??? )
Fans & media will pressure the guy when he plays badly. ( Earn your money )

Early in the 2nd period & it's 3 zip for Chicago.

They are flying this year. Not a weak position. Goaltending, defence & fast skating / play making when on the attack.
They get shots & get rebounds. A recipe for wins.
Keep playing like that & they will be serious contenders for the Cup.

Maybe the Canucks will meet them in the play offs.
After the dust settles the winning team possibly will be exhausted & easy pickings to bump off in the following round. ;D

Canucks play at 6pm tonight against the Blues. Home game again.

Canucks have had a lot of home games so far it seems.
Have not followed hockey too close but I assume they have a 3 to 1 ratio. 3 home games to 1 away game.
Chicago has played more away than home games which makes their good start even more impressive.

Canucks lost their last game as they gave up some late goals.
( goalie wars... Maybe Luongo is kinda happy about that, but he sure will not say it in public. )

By the way EDITED IN to say that the final score was 3-2 for Hawks over LA.
Big push back by th Kings in the 3rd.
With the Hawks down a man & LA goalie on the bench making it a 2 man advantage the Kings nearly tied the game.

Fans went home happy in Chicago & they & tv land audience were treated to a very very high paced well fought contest.
