So I was at Lickman practicing my Roll Cast and Snap T for like 2.5 hours on a Saturday morning and couldn't understand why people were getting upset!

I was standing waste deep in the middle of the run letting my line drift close to the tailout. I was just practising because people kept telling me that you have to master the perfect loop cast. I mean it wasn't like I was hooking fish, I was just practicing in 1 spot. I just don't understand why so many people were there getting upset when there wasn't a single fish hooked while I was practising. I then went up to the Prison area and did the same thing to get away from the Lickman crowd and was there for about 3 hours and same thing, more guys getting upset! I just don't understand why guys get so worked up, I was just practising my casting and not trying to catch fish. ;D :o

You were ruining it for everyone else by fence-posting in the middle of the run.
Why do you have to be waist deep in the water?
"Waist deep" is usually 3-4 feet. That's where the fish are.
All you were doing is pushing them out (if they were there).

Yeah, maybe he was...hope so...but it sure hit a nerve - you see too much of that these days.  :o

IMO it is near impossible on the Vedder to actually find good fly water that is not crowded, especially in the lower! So I would not be too hard them when they park at a piece of water that swings nice. Take Bergman for example, such a nice run for the fly, but how often is there room to even fish it on the fly? I feel bad for the fly guys trying to hook winter run fish in murky water. Let them do what they want.I have no problem fishing behind them.

There are both idiotic gear and fly guys who have no idea how to read the water. With the horrible Steelie fishing this on the chedder, I doubt it will make a difference anyway lol I have yet to even see a fish...so much better last year.

OK I will make a few points.
Dennis, if there are apparently more spey guys around maybe it is not too much of a stretch to assume that many of these hordes are also new fishers too who might not know the steelhead ropes yet. There is no excuse to low hole or fence post runs although this is a problem with fishers of all types on the Vedder, newbies and older guys who should know better. Maybe you could impart to them a bit of sage advice as to the general etiquette of steelhead fishing and get on with your day. As for spey guys taking a longer time to cover a run, that is part and parcel of swinging flies in low water temps when the fish will not move far, and for all you know that guy could have just had a rare grab and was working back through in an attempt to get that fish to have another go, hence his slow speed. If you don't like it get there earlier or go fish another run.
I have been told off by people fishing behind me on the Vedder that I shouldn't fish hardware because it spooks all the fish. I am sure it probably does spook some of fish into faster water when you are bouncing a Ironhead off the bottom but it also produce some great grabs from aggressive fish. Do you think I am going to stop fishing hardware because I might make it tougher for the next guy?  Of course not I was there first and I will bounce fat hardware off the bottom if I dam well feel like it. So what if it making a little more challenging for the next guy, its my prerogative to fish how I like. The world doesn't revolve around floatfishers, even if they own a Milner.
As for moving fish into swifter water the constant barrage of lead from float anglers the Vedder fish see every day has the same or greater effect as hardware, swinging big flies too only with way less grabs. What I don't get is your particular problem with it. If the fish get pushed into the faster water they are still well within range if you are float fishing as Typhoon pointed out, so who cares you can still catch fish? Those spooked fish just aren't available to guys swinging flies in that heavy water. Fly guys and gals fishing for winters on the Vedder have pretty much everything stacked against them so your complaints are pretty hilarious considering all the advantages gear anglers have.

There are many problems with the Vedder. Too many people, lack of respect for each other,  the river and the fish and apparently this year not too many fish around. Last time I checked a proliferation of spey rods wasn't that high up the list of Vedder problems. I think threads like this where you just bash another user group without adding anything constructive are a joke and a borderline troll themselves.

Pin-nook - you can't say anything ironic on FWR they just don't get it.

I actually wasn't even complaining about getting low-holed. I know it's the Vedder and if I work a run for 20 minutes I'm more than happy.
My comment was more towards: if you're going to low-hole and fence post a guy then at least do it right, dummies.

I'm not bashing you Typhoon, you make good points. I just don't see how swinging flies is really preventing float fishers from catching fish.

I hardly ever fish the Vedder for the reasons I mentioned above. If I do and I get to a good run that is miraculously free of anglers I never start arbitrarily at the head and work my way down, I always fish the best water first if I am fishing fly or gear. If you start at the head it's a gimme that guys will appear out of the bushes and start flinging bait into the bucket and fence post it up. I don't complain about it I just fish that bit first.

Hell yeah I was joking...you could not pay me enough money to take up fly fishing!! Spey fishing looks cool and respect it but too much work plus I don't have the patients to sit and make flys. Seriously though, most Spey guys I see are above knee deep in the river and in some cases scary deep spooking fish but you know what, as a pure gear guy I am more ashamed at the behaviour of other gear guys on the river. Sure I get that brutal look from a Spey fisherman but only until he/she notices that I will respect their space but more often than not it's a gear guy that pisses me off.

Redway....you know me, I love my centerpins and float fishing! Wait till you see my latest Sage custom in person....it's sick!

And that is exactly why I can't wait for ice-off and the interior lakes to open up.
Big hungry trout all around my anchored boat, me alone in the boat with two rods...a chironomid dangling under the indicator on one, a leech or wooly bugger being slowly retrieved with the other...a nice Cuban cigar in my mouth...now THAT is fishing.
Guerrilla tactics not required at any time. Leave them for WAR.

Sorry JC, not posting pic! It's a brown Sage 3113lb done like the factory green CP rods only that it has a custom taper and flawless wraps and detailed trim. The rod is super clean looking but even better matched up with my 1 off Kingfisher or Talisman. I only trust 1 builder and he did this as a favour and took 6-7 months till he finally did it.
