2013-2015 DFO online fishing regulation guide
« on: May 06, 2013, 04:05:36 PM »

Fisheries and Oceans Canada has redesigned the online tidal sport fishing regulation guide and freshwater salmon supplement. You can find it in the following link. What do you think of the new design? Are you able to navigate it easily to find the regulations which you are looking for?

I agree. I skimmed through it quickly and it looks good so far. I do have a few suggestions for them but will only make those when I look at this in details. If anyone finds a glitch or think additional improvements are needed, please feel free to leave some constructive feedbacks. I will pass your concerns to the person who is responsible for this new project so this can be as user friendly as possible.

Looks good.
Maybe ask your fisheries buddy, when they are going to get there act together and make a fishing license more like a card.  Other provinces have them.  A 5 year card, each year you place the appropriate sticker on the back.  It doesn't make sense that we are printing this stuff out on paper.  We are thinking of sending people to mars.  We can create a plastic outdoors card.

I would like to see this happen, waste of paper and time, imho.

I do not care about the look. What are the main rule differences between the new one and the previous one?

One thing is different: I bought tidal water license online and found there is a halibut section of catch record. No such section on last year's.

There are always new changes in regulations each year. The most significant one this year is the halibut annual quota and maximum size limit. For other changes you'll just have to read the regulations of the area where you intend to fish. This updated version is mostly a layout update for easier navigation. Gone are the multiple colours to highlight seasonal changes, which are really confusing for users.

Licensing is a different issue. The topic of licence card has been brought up numerous times at meetings. All I can say is changes are slow to implement when there are so many different levels of government to work with.
