Happened to me. Echo Lake, Campbell River. There is a pair of eagles that have been frequenting that lake for a couple of yrs. now. One of them tried to get a fish from me the first week in April. I managed to scare the eagle off and landed the fish. A week later I was at Echo again. Windy day with the odd shower, was making fishing tough. I had looked aroung to see if my friend the eagles were there but I didn't see them. I had been rowing in the wind and showers for about 3hrs. when the bite came on. I was into a nice trout and had it beside the boat.Reaching for the net I heard the rushing of wings. From behind me came my friend with air brakes on and talons ready.Right beside the boat the opportunist closed his talons on my fish. Banking to the left and low over the water the eagle began his ascent with the fish,my favorite flatfish and my flyline trailing behind. The eagle and I soon parted the 4lb test and off he went to enjoy his meal. One out of how many lures is a fish magnet? The flatfish in the trout's mouth had been one of those. I thought to my self, I hope you choke on it. One will never forget that encounter.
