so...if i catch a pikeminnow (any pics Rod?) do i keep it alive in a bucket for the weigh in at 1500hours? how does this work? (never fished a derby before except once in the states, but there we bonked all the fish - bass, catfish, other panfish)

"Any hockey players like last year ?" - my brother

I'm wondering the same thing...I'll be there regardless.

For reference, northern pikeminnow:

I believe this is a catch and kill derby?

Tickets are available at the local tacklestores in Chilliwack or on main beach on derby day.

If Chilliwack is too far for you to go to, come down to Steveston that day for our family fishing day instead.

Not sure about hockey players, I might get one or two Canucks this year at my event, still not confirmed.

Yes, this is a catch and kill derby.
DFO suspects the Pike Minnows eat a lot of the Sockeye fry in Cultus Lake, and that Sockeye run is endangered.

Nope, northern pikeminnow is not endangered, the Fraser River watershed is in fact infested with them.

You maybe thinking about the salish sucker and nootsak dace (spelling?) that are endangered in the Fraser Valley. Suspected causes are the introduction of foreign species like the largemouth bass that heavily predates them, and urban development.
