was out on my boat from 1 till 5 today right by ladner. fish moving but very slow. i think most of the fish that were rolling were sockeye. saw lots of green heads and bigger than pink size fish. their were also tons of nets when i arrived. my girlfriend managed one but visibility very poor. 1 foot to 1 and a half foot most .dfo was out checking people which was nice to see. going to go back monday.

No.5 rd, Richmond. Saw a few landed couple hours before high tide. Dead after that. Considering how many people fishing, not much going on. Caught a chrome female last night, lost a couple, same with the other two fishing near me.

There are definitely fish out there.

And.

It's definitely still on the early side of the run.

I had one nudge from 1pm-4pm. Think I saw *maybe* one pink roll upstream from the Patullo, plus a spring or two jump mid-river and a few sturgeon too.

Gonna be back out Monday.

Yesterday the river was full of fish and void of people.

Today, the complete opposite. ;D

It was good to see many familiar faces this afternoon. We get to catch up once every two years, catching some pink salmon is just a bonus, right?

Good to see my buddy Vince's 8 year old son Jaden catching his first pink salmon. He did his own cast, retrieve and hook-up. :D Vince and I have fished together along the Tidal Fraser in Richmond since the late 90s. We started out handlining chubs, then I showed him how to catch pikeminnow with spinners in 2000, then introduced him to pinks in 2001, and coho salmon the following year. Nice to see him passing that on. ;)

Lots of kids out with parents today. This is why the Tidal Fraser pink fishery is so fantastic. It can be crowded, but the atmosphere is always positive.

Went out for a couple hours today around No. 5 Rd, hooked into 3 but all 3 took 1 run and spit the hook  >:( Didn't see anyone else around me hook into one. Can't say I got skunked though because I managed to pull in a pike minnow and a bullhead, with both fish barely able to fit my spoon into their mouths :P None the less, awesome day to be out. Clarity has improved from yesterday, I would guess 10-12".

Yesterday between about 1:30 and 4:30 my son and I tried at Derby Reach. When we arrived there were about a dozen people spin casting and two boats anchored out. I didn't have so much as a nibble, and I didn't see anyone else hook up either.

I've heard people say that Derby Reach isn't a great place. Does anyone here have any experience there?

I went out Friday morning after the opening and tried a couple of places.
First place, I hooked 2 fish but lost them both (1st fish on the 5th cast).

Moved to Richmond and saw a lot of fish rising around 3:00pm.
Hooked 3 fish there but only landed one - figured out my drag was too tight and finally loosened it off.

Richmond was pretty busy - spent a fair amount of time showing people how to fish properly.
All the fish on Saturday were fairly large bucks - fished about 6 hours total.

Went out after 6:00pm on Saturday and landed one nice doe (got sunburnt Friday so had to cool it Saturday).

Still early but plenty of fish around if you put in the time.

I've only got a light spinning rod (2-6) and 4lb line. If the fish are +/- 6lb is the fishing doable with my setup?
Don't feel like getting another rod/reel combo for 3 weeks of fishing.

Cheers,
Dan

Hoop- IMHO try respooling with 6lb, maybe 8. It will help with the current.  Not too heavy or casting distance is affected.

I think 4lb line is a bit too light... would reccomend somewhere between 8 - 15lb test
Last time I was using 15lb line for pinks and still got it broken a few times from scratching against rocks etc.
