Long Cast,

how high is the boardwalk above the water?  Didn't know you could fish down there.

It's high to the point that it's very difficult to get the fish on the boardwalk. Luckily, an elderly couple helped me get the fish with their rope net system.  I was using a brand new reel and line just to deal with the fishing situation. During three different days times I fished over there, I was the only person who caught a salmon in three days! No one really lands salmon over there because of the extremely difficult landing conditions.

Wow.  Its hard enough landing a pink at the waters edge.  I can't even picture this rope net contraption that you used.  You should try fishing down the road at Sapperton Landing.  Much better water access.

The pink salmon I caught tasted like carp (freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae), not crap.

The meat wasn't anything red, more like transparent white.

Carp is a prized food fish in many parts of the world. In Eastern Europe it's the traditional Xmas meal just like turkey is here. Pink salmon like many other lauded food fish has a very mild flavour compared to say sockeye - which some people can't stomach as it's too strong. Pinks should have pink or orange flesh. They can be as orange as coho but will always be mild. They work great with marinades such as teryaki. Another good way to serve them is Jamie Oliver's Fish Tray Bake: http://www.mummyknows.com.au/2012/01/jamie-oliver-fish-tray-bake/

Any salmonid too close to spawning will not be tasty. They will have off flavours that are offensive. Some salmon seem to keep flavour better even though they are darkening. Pink does not. Make sure your fish are bright with a silvery sheen on the scales at minimum.

Pink fishing at tidal Fraser must be dead slow now for the thread to be talking about carp for a change. ;D ;D  How about carp fishing report where the hot spots are?  ;D

I'm heading out tonight in my tinny around the Langley area.  Will probably be the last pink trip I make as I have seen some coho risers around my favourite coho beach.

So I am going to switch to that.

Freezer is packed with pinks, time to fire up the smoker and move on to Ho's.

But one last kick at it tonight.

X2 Any pinks retained on the river must have silvery sheen on the scales, bleed properly and put on ice to maintain it's delicate flavour.

Ironically, this post and the picture came right after Rod put up the link to the updated Regs page a few hours ago. Still a long way to go... Poor fish >:( :(

"Coho:

No retention of coho until October 4, 2013. The use of bait and fishing for coho is prohibited September 3 - October 4, 2013.
    October 5 - December 31, 2013: 2 hatchery-marked coho.
