Just got checked by DFO here in Richmond. Good to see them out! Everyone getting checked was compliant (though there were only 3 people in my immediate vicinity), which was awesome.

Noon to 2pm around Deas Island. A few fish rolling but not big numbers.

Fourth cast, tap tap, strike. Reel screams as it goes on a run, bring it back, reel screams again as it goes on an even longer run. Bring it back, but as I get it close, theres no fight, turns out to be a BIG pike minnow, biggest I've ever seen. Six or seven anglers out, no fish caught and no bites otherwise.

Left at 2pm and wandered down to Ladner pier. Lots of pinks surfacing and heading up river over at the far bank (the shallow side). Watched a couple of sturgeon jump and then rounded it off watching a chub fisherman who was catching pretty much every cast - but the interesting thing was his wife taking the fish off the line and then rebaiting his hooks for him. Can't imagine my wife doing that for me any time soon :)

I guess we will find out tomorrow.

FN0859  states a continuation of commercial seine in Area 29 (Fraser mouth).
It also outlines a new opening in Area 13.

More info from the notice:

Catches of pink salmon in marine test fisheries have declined in recent days
but remain well above expected levels. Recent DNA samples indicate that the
proportion of Fraser pink salmon have increased to 80-85% of the stock
composition in the approach areas. The other pink stocks are non-Fraser South
Coast Canadian stocks and stocks destined for Washington State river systems.
The diversion rate of Fraser River pink salmon through Johnstone Strait has
declined slightly over recent days to 74% on September 5th from 91% on
September 3rd, 2013. At the Fraser Panel meeting today the Fraser Panel adopted
a run size increase from 24 million to 26 million for Fraser Pink salmon with
no change to the estimated 50% migration timing through Area 20 of August 29th,
2013.

There have been hints at further increases in the run size so it will be close to 30 million.

LOL. He didn't want his hands getting stinky & smelly but the wife is ok. You bet she does him good massage too after fishing because his hands get tired holding the rod, lol.

Surprising that there are so many pinks around but they just don't bite as aggressive as years past.

Just checking the marine test fisheries to see what the numbers look like.

Area 13 seine 2011 test fishery - best day was Aug 25 with 16,500 pinks - average days were around 5000, tapering off to hundreds by Sept 6.
Area 13 seine 2013 test fishery - Sept 1: 45,805 / Sept 2: 23,340 / Sept 3: 31,893 / Sept 4: 38,301 / Sept 5: 6,943

The numbers are massive and the fish are still a ways off (Area 13 is the narrows around Quadra Island, north of Campbell River).

Most of the pinks are still on route - we could see 35 million.

Was out in the mission area this afternoon for an 1 1/2. Fairly consistent activity for fish movement, only hooked up with one briefly; but lost it. Bonus was landing a very nice trout.... should be lots of fish around the next 10 days atleast.

Did you say those numbers are for test fisheries? LOL, they look like commercial catches.  :D

There were A LOT of fish today Delta ways. A LOT! Not one of the 15 guys out hooked up, I saw no bites, heard of nothing, but we had a solid 25 minutes with rollers and jumpers. Huge school pushed up, but not a damn thing for anyone. Im getting worried! This is the 7th trip I think, and the 7th skunk. COME ON FISHIES!

Not true. It's even more frustrating when so many pass by your feet and bite everybody else's lure except yours ;D

I went after work to fish around Pattullo area. Landed one almost exactly like yours, a big male with a large hump. Oh well, can't afford to choose I guess. Only saw 3 landed among 20+ rods.
