This will make many on here "happy happy happy"

"Due to Interior Fraser River coho constraints, the Area B Seine Fraser Pink ITQ
demonstration fishery will close at 21:00 hours on Tuesday, September 10, 2013.
The Department will continue to evaluate the fishing impacts to date though
further seine fishing opportunities in Area 29 for Fraser pink salmon are not
anticipated."

Thank god... I'm having a great time fishing, but all the gas and gear was starting to add up.

ha-ha, commercial seiners must have mopped up today knowing this was their last day to net those  precious pinks ;D

the next few days will certainly be interesting without the the seiners, are we going to see a bio mass migration so thick, now that the seiner road block has been removed? we will soon see I guess...

Going to be interesting to see how many more fish enter the Fraser with the closure.  FYI, here is the whole DFO notice:

Due to Interior Fraser River coho constraints, the Area B Seine Fraser Pink ITQ
demonstration fishery will close at 21:00 hours on Tuesday, September 10, 2013.
The Department will continue to evaluate the fishing impacts to date though
further seine fishing opportunities in Area 29 for Fraser pink salmon are not
anticipated.

Fishers are reminded to complete all catch reporting requirements as outlined
in the 2013 Commercial Salmon Area B Seine conditions of licence.

Fished Dyke Road at the end of Gilbert between 7:00 and 8:00pm. Saw a few jumpers plus 2 that were landed by two guys beside me. I think my lure might be too big, I'm using a 1/2oz croc. Maybe I should downsize to a 3/8...

What is an ITQ Demonstration Fishery?

ITQ = individual transferable quota

Each boat is given a quota. If they feel like taking a day off they can sell their quota to another boat. In theory it allows DFO to manage the harvest better - as there is a cap on the number of fish the entire fleet can take.

What is an ITQ Demonstration Fishery?

"ITQ" is for Individual transferable quotas.  Each vessel is allocated a certain # of fish that they are allowed to catch (quota).  But they can sell there share to another boat vice versa.  Before this when they announced openings say for instance "seines open 48hrs" all boats participating try to catch as much as they can in the 48 hrs, and they would announce openings as required to get the amount allocated for that fleet.

Fished Abby area this afternoon / evening.  4-7 pm

Caught 2 and lost a couple.  3/8th crock seemed to work.

Saw about 50 guys fishing and very few fish taken.  Most were foul hooked from what i could see.

Basically the pinks are not really biting. Most people have figured out to sink spoon to bottom and slow retrieve. Add a rip when tension is felt is leading to alot more snagging going on.

Not sure why the Pinks are not really striking on the medium / normal retrieve this year.

Even saw a few people tonight using wool . They snagged a number of fish but did take 3 or 4  pinks  in the mouth.  First time i have seen this way of fishing in this area.  2 years ago the spoons were fishing well on a decent retrieve.  NOt sure why things are different this year.

Not sure how many boats the first nations will have out, but its a short opening:

This fishery is open from 07:00 hours, Wednesday, September 11, 2013 to 20:00
hours, Friday, September 13, 2013

Only individuals designated by the Tsawwassen First Nation are authorized to
participate in this fishery.  All aspects of the communal licence will be
enforced. Fish harvesters are advised to contact their band for a copy of the
conditions of their fishing licence

Seen the same people every cast ripping. But I was able to land a Male on a pink croc. Fist fish out of 5 outings. Going back out tomorrow after work. It can only get better. I hear under the Mission Bridge it's packed with fish  ;)
