I know the close of coho and the bait ban for salmon. It was white gum and white tongue, no teeth behind the tongue, tail was spotted from top to bottom, not forked. I got it by a 3/16 oz Gibbs cros.

It looks like a chinook to me, problem is, they have black gums and tongue. If it was white....you illegally harvested a steelhead bud. The square tail should have been a dead giveaway.....bad form.

So no harm done, unless I'm mistaken there is a limit of 2 hatchery marked trout >30cm (which would include steelhead) in the tidal Fraser. Carry on. ;D

Indeed.  It is sad how many people are quick to jump on the guy for illegally killing a coho by virtue of their attempts to ID a fish from a rather poor picture (the only feature you can see clearly is the tail, which itself would not have indicated coho as they cover the tail (even the body spots are hard to see with the flash glare).  You need at least two or three features to properly ID a fish, and this is difficult to do with most single pictures (which makes Rod's game such a challenge at times), so next time, ask first before criticizing the guy to the point where he removes the picture entirely.  It likely was a fresh steelhead, judging from the description of the mouth,  in which case he was allowed to slaughter it. (Now he should have released it so I could catch it later, but that is another discussion).

It's pretty common to encounter trout (cutthroat, juvenile steelhead, etc) in the Tidal Fraser from mid September to around late October.

I know the regulations and I had triple checked the fish before I decided to keep it.
I think if I post the photo at this thread may make it more easy.

Sandman, the steelhead was measured 31cm, next time when I release a under size one, I will let you know so that you can catch it later.

I love it! Nice catch ktt.
I admit I only saw the head (my browser clips photos on this site) and thought it was a coho.

Does anyone else find the irony in a user with the name "RainbowMan" mis-ID'ing a rainbow as a coho  ;D

(Just yankin' your chain, dude!)

Once we get closer to the coho salmon fishery opening, there will be one.

No worries!  ::)
Truth is that I wasn't able to see the full tail of that fish in my Google Chrome Browser. Now that I open the page in Mozilla, it certainly looks different! That being said, the head and mouth in that pic did look like a fresh coho jack...

BTW, Steelhead and Rainbow are two different species of the trout family. Correct??  ;)

The spotting on the full tail actually makes it look like a chinook.  Coho's only have spots on the upper part of the tail.  Is there even such a thing as a hatchery chinook?  Its definitely a hatchery fish with the adipose fin missing.
yes there are hatchery chinook. I will post a picture later tonight for you to see. Currently at work :p
